To provide better nutrition to school going children, Himalaya has associated with Akshaya Patra Foundation, an Indian non-profit organization that provides mid-day meals to children of low income households studying in government schools. Children between 5-15 years of age are served freshly cooked free lunches of grains (rice / wheat), pulses and vegetables. The programme encourages children to attend school regularly and helps improve their concentration and participation in school activities.
Himalaya has extended financial support to this cause and is currently sponsoring mid-day meals for 5455 students every month. We have also donated two vehicles to help in the transportation of these nutritious mid-day meals.
In a country like India where hunger and undernourishment is a major problem that affects close to 207 million people, the mid-day meal scheme fills a nutritional gap for children from low income households.
